I was born in Brasov, Transylvania, into a family that had always loved classical music. My father was a doctor and my mother was an opera singer. I attended the Andrei Saguna Humanities High School in Brasov, where I began cultivating my voice at the age of 15 with the help of my mother.
The "Ciprian Porumbescu" Conservatory of Music and Dramatic Art in Bucharest was the next stage in my artistic growth, under the guidance of talented singers and teachers, such as Emilia Petrescu and Arta Florescu. Immediately afterwards I was admitted to the Academic Choir of the "G. Enescu Philharmonic" in Bucharest, where I was often invited as a soloist in opera and lieder concerts, performing on the stage of the splendid Romanian Athenaeum.
Then the Operetta Theater in Bucharest where as a Prima Donna I interpreted roles such as “Rosalinda” in The Dandy in The Flesh, “Maria Elisa” in Paganini, “Countess Maritza” in E. Kalmann’s operetta Synonyms, “Safi” in The Gypsy Baron by J. Strauss, “Lisa” in The Land of Smiles by Fr. Lehar, etc.
Another step forward was my hiring at the Bucharest Opera House as a first soloist.
The roles played were Adalgisa from Bellini's Norma, Juliet from Hoffmann's tales and Rosalinda.
My stay at the Bucharest Opera was short because, with the fall of the communist dictatorship, the Ceausescu era, I was finally able to leave my country of birth, to begin my career and emerge in important artistic spaces, even abroad.
The Prague State Opera and the Zagreb Opera were the first two theaters where I performed Floria Tosca, a significant role for my vocal ability and my artistic temperament..
I have also performed “Tosca” at the Vien Stats Opera, the Bayerische Oper Opera Capitole de Toulouse, the Teatro Opera di Roma, the Helsinki Finnish Opera, the Landes Theater Linz, the Manoel Theater in Malta, the Basel Opera, the Baltimore Opera, the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Massa Maritima Festival, the Teatro Guilmera in Tenerife, etc.
Manon Lescaut was another character I loved very much and which I performed at the Adelaide South Australia Opera, at the Torre del Lago Puccini Festival, and at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste.
Abigaille from the opera Nabucco by G. Verdi and Fedora from the synonymous opera by U. Giordano, roles of imposing personality and strength of character.
I have been “Abigaille” and “Fedora” at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome, at the Luglio Musicale Trapanese Festival, at the Gozo Festival (Malta) etc.
Other roles that I loved very much and interpreted with great success were: Maddalena di Coigny, Norma, Leonora from Il Trovatore, Mimi and Madama Butterflies.y.
However, there are two roles that have marked my artistic path and have offered me unique vocal and interpretive satisfaction: the Princess in Turandot and Santuzza from Cavalleria Rusticana.
Although considered a verismo singer, I have also tried to explore the more lyrical, Verdian repertoire. Aida has been the character I have performed on many open-air occasions, such as at the Split Festival, the Foggia Festival, the Carcasson Festival (France), and Maastricht, alongside the unforgettable Gianfranco Cecchele, Bruna Baglioni, and Alain Fondary.
A special place in my heart and in my international artistic career remains the Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago.
Between the Memorial House of the great Maestro and the echo of the great interpreters who have come and gone over the years (given that we have reached the 71st edition), the atmosphere has always been wonderful.
Mario del Monaco, Franco Corelli, Virginia Zeani, Antonietta Stella, Ghena Dimitrova, Maria Slatinaru, and Katia Riciarelli are some of the artists who have participated in the various editions of the Festival over the years.
Tosca, Manon Lescaut, the Princess of Turandot Santuzza in Cavalleria, were the roles I interpreted for 5 consecutive annual editions from 1996 to 2000.
Conductors include Richard Bonynge, Pinkas Steinberg, Steven Mercurio and Antonello Allemandi.
I have worked in several productions of “Fedora” by U. Giordano with the director Beppe de Tommasi at the Verdi in Trieste, at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome with Ivan Stefanutti, “Evgenij Onegin” again at the Verdi in Trieste, with Attilio Colonello, collaborator of the great Zeffireli with “Manon Lescaut” in Torre del Lago, etc.
The symphonic vocal repertoire was also a wonderful experience for me, starting with the lieder cycle "Les nuits d'ete" by H. Berlioz, performed at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, with the Grazer Philarmoniker, at the Salzburg Festspielhaus with the great Munich Philarmoniker orchestra during the time of Sergiu Celibidache, General Music Director.
With the Bavarian Radio Orchestra I performed a Gala with arias and duets by Giuseppe Verdi together with tenor Peter Dvorsky.
All these concerts that I performed were expertly directed by the great Fabio Luisi.
I also had an unforgettable artistic experience with him, singing “Soprano1” and “Magna Pecatrix“ from Mahler’s VIII Symphony.
I chose to live and create in Brașov, an enchanting city in the heart of Transylvania. My home has transformed into a vibrant artistic space, becoming an integral part of my creative journey and a daily source of inspiration.
